What is Finch?
Finch is a design platform for architects and developers in the early project phases. It generates floor plans, unit mixes and building layouts with graph-based AI and shows performance metrics while the design changes.
Finch started as an internal tool of an architecture practice and was set up as a company in Malmö, Sweden, in 2019. It began as a Rhino plug-in and is now a standalone application that works with Rhino, Grasshopper and Revit. Typical projects are master plans, residential buildings, high-rises and offices. The company reports more than 130,000 projects created and use in more than 70 countries, and Sweco Denmark is among its named users.
Finch AI features and use cases
- Generates unit mix and circulationFrom a building massing and user-set rules, Finch proposes an optimized unit mix and circulation. Architects test the yield of a site early without drawing every layout by hand. This is part of the Basic plan.
- Fills floor plans from the firm's libraryIn Enterprise, Finch generates floor plans grounded in the firm's own plan library and checks them against code and accessibility requirements. Offices reuse proven layouts and keep their design standards across projects.
- Shows performance while designingBuilding performance and area metrics update in real time as the design changes. Teams discuss options with numbers on the table instead of waiting for a separate analysis.
What sets Finch apart
- Free plan for a single user and published prices for paid plans in euros.
- Works with Rhino, Revit and Grasshopper, so work continues in existing design tools.
Where Finch is strongest
Finch is operated by the Swedish company Archfinch AB (venue Malmö) and says it is used in more than 70 countries, without a published focus market.
