What is Zoho Books?

Zoho Books is online accounting software for small and midsize businesses, with a German edition that supports GoBD, DATEV export and e-invoicing, and an AI layer called Zia that completes tasks, drafts sales documents and analyzes reports.

Zoho Books covers invoicing, purchases and bills, bank reconciliation with rules, expense tracking, inventory, projects and reports. The German edition offers GoBD-oriented audit logs and retention, SKR 03 and SKR 04 charts of accounts, a DATEV-compatible export, SEPA payments and e-invoices in XRechnung and ZUGFeRD, sent and received over the Peppol network. Uploaded or emailed documents can be captured with Autoscan, which reads date, amount, merchant and line items.

Zoho Books is part of Zoho Corporation, a privately held software company that reports more than 100 million users across its applications and has never taken investor funding.

Zoho Books AI features and use cases

  • Completes tasks on requestAsk Zia understands typed requests, creates items, retrieves information and shows key business details. Bookkeepers and owners can look up a figure or create a record without navigating menus, and a speech assistant in English allows the same by voice.
  • Drafts sales documents from promptsThe CoCreate Agent builds quotes, sales orders, invoices and credit notes from a natural language prompt and shows each step on screen. Users can step in and correct fields at any time, which speeds up routine billing without losing control.
  • Flags late paying customersThe Zia Invoice Agent shows overdue balances, payment delay patterns and late payment trends at the top of the invoice list. Receivables staff see where to follow up first instead of sorting aging lists by hand.
  • Explains trends in reportsZia Insights analyzes financial reports and generates insights on trends and patterns, and reports can be shown as charts with forecast and anomaly detection. Finance teams get a first reading of the numbers before month-end reviews.

  • Zoho runs data centers in several regions, including the EU in Amsterdam and Dublin, and lists SOC 1 Type II and SOC 2 Type II reports.

Questions to ask before you buy Zoho Books

The data center is assigned by the country you select at sign-up, so check that the account runs in the EU region (Amsterdam and Dublin) alongside options such as the US and India. Review which AI provider and model are selected under AI Preferences before enabling Zia. Autoscan includes only a limited number of free scans, with more sold as an add-on. Verified admins can download SOC 1 Type II and SOC 2 Type II reports after accepting an online NDA. Zoho sends its data processing addendum on request by email.
