What is Auphonic?
Auphonic is an Austrian web service that automatically post-processes audio for podcasts, videos and audiobooks. Communication and content teams upload a recording and get balanced levels, less noise, cut filler words and a transcript without audio engineering skills.
Auphonic GmbH, based in Eibiswald, Austria, processes single tracks and multitrack recordings with leveling, loudness normalization, noise and reverb reduction, ducking and noise gating. Video files get subtitles, metadata and burned-in captions.
Automation runs through watch folders, an API, a command-line tool and a Zapier interface, with publishing integrations such as YouTube, Libsyn, PodBean and SoundCloud. The vendor names BBC Radio and iHeartRadio among its users. Billing is by processed audio duration, however many output files you export.
Auphonic AI features and use cases
- Balances speaker levelsThe Intelligent Leveler analyzes a recording and evens out loudness between speakers, music and speech without manual compressor settings. Podcast and communication teams get consistent volume across interviews recorded with different microphones.
- Reduces noise and reverbNoise and reverb reduction removes static and changing background sounds, such as hum or traffic, while keeping the voice. Teams recording in offices or home setups publish clearer audio without booking a studio.
- Cuts filler words and silenceAutomatic editing detects filler words, coughs and silence in several languages and cuts them from the recording. Content teams save editing time on long conversations and receive a tighter episode for listeners.
- Creates transcripts and chaptersSpeech recognition turns the episode into a transcript and derives show notes and chapter marks from it. Marketing teams reuse the text for episode pages, subtitles and search engines, and listeners can jump to topics.
What sets Auphonic apart
- Main servers run at Hetzner in Germany, and the subprocessor list names three providers.
- Productions are deleted automatically after 21 days for audio and 7 days for video and API jobs.
- Billing depends on input duration, not on the number of output formats.

Questions to ask before you buy Auphonic
Auphonic runs its main servers at Hetzner in Germany and also stores media files in Cloudflare R2. For EU users, the privacy policy says these buckets are restricted to EU jurisdiction; users outside the EU should check the transfer terms. A data processing agreement is available to paying customers on request. The free tier adds a jingle, and unused free credits do not carry over, so estimate your monthly audio hours. Austria and Germany: involve works councils if employee recordings are processed.
