What is Genesis World?

Genesis World is an open source simulation platform for robotics and physical AI, supported by the company Genesis AI. Robotics researchers and engineers use it to simulate rigid and soft bodies, fluids and cloth and to train robot policies across many parallel environments.

The platform has four layers: a simulation interface that parses URDF, MJCF, OBJ, GLB and USD assets; a multi-physics engine with rigid, FEM, MPM, particle and other solvers in one scene; three rendering paths including the in-house Nyx renderer; and the Quadrants compiler, which turns Python kernels into code for CUDA, AMD ROCm, Apple Metal, Vulkan, x86 and ARM64.

The project started as an academic project in December 2024 under the name Genesis and is now supported by Genesis AI. The repository had 29,992 GitHub stars and its latest push on September 27, 2026.

Genesis World AI features and use cases

  • Trains policies in parallel scenesGenesis runs many parallel and heterogeneous environments at once, so reinforcement learning agents collect experience quickly. Robotics teams can train manipulation or locomotion before touching real hardware.
  • Simulates soft materialsSolvers for deformable bodies, fluids and cloth let robots practice with bags, cables or liquids in simulation. Teams working on handling of non-rigid goods get training scenarios that rigid-body engines do not cover.
  • Learns through differentiable physicsAutodiff support provides gradients through the simulation for optimization-based learning and system identification. Researchers can tune controllers or physical parameters more directly than with trial and error.

What sets Genesis World apart

  • Several physics solvers share one scene and state, including deformables and fluids.
  • Runs on NVIDIA, AMD and Apple GPUs as well as CPUs through its own compiler.
  • Apache 2.0 license with company backing from Genesis AI.
