What is Opik?

Opik is an open-source platform from Comet for tracing, evaluating and improving LLM applications and agents. Developers log every step of a run, manage prompts in a versioned library and score outputs with LLM judges, with free cloud and self-hosted options.

Opik covers agent tracing with execution graphs and sessions, token and cost tracking, user feedback, a prompt library, an Agent Playground, datasets and experiments, and production monitoring with guardrails. It integrates with more than 40 frameworks, model providers and gateways, including LangChain, OpenAI and CrewAI. The code is open source and also runs as Free, Pro and Enterprise cloud plans. Comet is headquartered in New York City and states that more than 150,000 developers use its tools. It suits teams with at least one developer who builds LLM features.

Opik AI features and use cases

  • Versions prompts in a libraryPrompts live in a central library, each edit creates a new version, and a run is linked to the exact version it used. Teams change wording without touching code and can reproduce an earlier answer by fetching an older version.
  • Judges answers with LLM metricsMore than 30 metrics, for example answer relevance, context precision, task completion and hallucination, score traces from development, testing or production. Reviewers can focus on the failing cases among thousands of logged runs.
  • Optimizes prompts automaticallyThe prompt optimizer offers six algorithms that tune prompts and parameters across an agent's steps, such as orchestration and tool calling. Developers get improved candidates to compare in the Agent Playground and need not test variants one by one.
  • Suggests fixes from tracesDiagnostics and the Ollie assistant analyze traces, recommend fixes and can write them into the development code with version control and a new regression test. That shortens debugging for engineers, and the Free plan includes a trial of Ollie.

What sets Opik apart

  • Open source with the same codebase as the hosted versions, so teams can start locally and move to the cloud later.
  • Test Suites let teams define plain-text assertions as pass or fail checks for agent behavior without building separate eval metrics.
  • A Cost Intelligence view tracks Claude Code and Codex usage and spend across engineering teams.
  • The free cloud plan allows up to 10 team members, and Pro costs $19 per month for up to 50.

Where Opik is strongest

Comet, the company behind Opik, states that it is headquartered in New York City, with a remote global workforce. That documents the United States as its home market.

Questions to ask before you buy Opik

Pricing counts spans per month, and retention is 60 days on the Free and Pro plans, so estimate volume first. Hosting region and DPA terms were not on the public pages checked in October 2026, so ask before logging personal data. Certifications, SSO and flexible deployments are listed under Enterprise. US state privacy laws, and HIPAA for health data, apply to what you log.
