What is Cursor?
Cursor is an AI code editor from Anysphere, which SpaceX acquired in August 2026. It combines an editor with an autonomous coding agent, predictive completion and cloud agents, and serves individual developers, small teams and enterprises that want AI help across the whole codebase.
Cursor offers the Agent for multi-file tasks, Tab for completions and inline edits, Bugbot for pull request review, cloud agents that run in parallel, a CLI, Slack integration and automations triggered by schedules or events. Codebase indexing gives the models repository context, and users pick between models from several providers, including Grok, and Cursor's own Composer model.
Plans run from the free Hobby tier to Enterprise with pooled usage, SCIM, audit logs and model access controls. The contracting party is Anysphere, Inc. with an address in San Francisco. On August 14, 2026, Cursor announced that SpaceX has acquired the company. A privacy mode, available on all plans, ensures code is not used for training by Cursor or its model providers.
Cursor AI features and use cases
- Implements features across filesThe Agent plans a change, edits the necessary files and shows the result for review. Development teams hand over routine features, refactorings or test writing and keep control through the review step.
- Predicts the next editTab suggests completions and targeted edits as you type, based on the surrounding code. Developers spend less time on boilerplate and repetitive changes.
- Reviews pull requestsBugbot reads pull requests on GitHub and points out likely bugs. Reviewers get a first pass before they look at the change, which shortens review cycles.
- Runs agents in the backgroundCloud agents work on longer tasks in parallel, and automations start agents on a schedule or event, for example for maintenance fixes. Teams can offload repetitive maintenance without blocking their own editor.
What sets Cursor apart
- Security page lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 42001:2023.
- Privacy mode on all plans excludes code from training by Cursor and its model providers.
- SAML/OIDC single sign-on starts with the Teams plan.
