What is Langfuse?
Langfuse is an open-source platform for teams building LLM applications, combining prompt management with tracing, evaluations and analytics. It can be used as a managed cloud with US, EU or Japan regions or self-hosted for free.
Langfuse GmbH is registered in Berlin and is now part of ClickHouse. Prompt management stores prompts centrally with versions and labels, so non-technical team members can update them in the UI while applications fetch the current version; the SDK caches prompts client-side. Linking prompts to traces shows how each version performs. The cloud runs on AWS and ClickHouse Cloud in Oregon, Ireland and Tokyo, with a HIPAA region for Enterprise. Langfuse lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. As of September 28, 2026 the GitHub repository had about 35,100 stars.
Langfuse AI features and use cases
- Separates prompts from codePrompts are versioned in Langfuse and labeled, for example as production, and applications load them through the SDK. Product managers and domain experts can improve prompts without a code deployment.
- Tests prompts in a playgroundThe browser playground runs a prompt version against a model with test inputs. Teams try changes quickly before promoting them.
- Runs experiments on datasetsExperiments run prompt versions over stored datasets and record scores. Teams compare versions on the same cases instead of judging single examples.
- Connects prompts to production dataTraces show which prompt version produced each response, with cost and latency. Teams can find weak versions and see the effect of every change.
What sets Langfuse apart
- Open source under the MIT license and free to self-host with Docker or Kubernetes.
- Cloud regions in the US, EU (Ireland) and Japan, plus a HIPAA region for Enterprise.
- Usage-based cloud pricing with published graduated rates per 100K units.

Questions to ask before you buy Langfuse
Choose the EU region if traces contain personal data from EU users, and sign the data processing addendum, which ClickHouse now publishes and which names Langfuse Cloud. Subprocessors are listed on the ClickHouse subprocessor page. SSO requires the Teams add-on on Pro or Enterprise. When traces include employee prompts, check co-determination rules in Germany.
