What is Nabla?
Nabla is an ambient AI assistant for clinicians and health organizations. It turns patient conversations into clinical notes, adds dictation and coding suggestions, and runs inside major EHRs, with offices in Paris and New York.
Nabla Technologies is a French company registered in Paris, with a US office in Brooklyn. Its product covers ambient documentation, dictation and medical coding, delivered through a web app, mobile apps, a Chrome extension and EHR integrations with Epic, athenahealth, Oracle Health, NextGen and Greenway Health. The vendor reports deployment in more than 130 health organizations and use by more than 85,000 clinicians. Developers can also access Nabla through an API.
Nabla AI features and use cases
- Documents the encounterNabla listens to the conversation between clinician and patient and generates a structured note in the chosen format. Clinicians review the note and send it to the EHR, which reduces after-hours charting.
- Dictates into the EHRClinical-grade dictation recognizes medical vocabulary and writes directly into Epic and other major EHRs. It fits clinicians who prefer to speak a note rather than use ambient capture. Dictation and ambient mode can be combined.
- Suggests billing codesBased on the finished documentation, Nabla proposes E/M and ICD-10 codes. Coding staff and physicians start from a suggestion and confirm it, which helps keep documentation and billing aligned. Final coding decisions remain with people.
What sets Nabla apart
- Public data protection agreement for non-US clients, with a French version, naming Google Cloud and Microsoft Speech and GPT models as subprocessors.
- Encounter data is kept for 14 days by default according to the DPA and help center.
- Available as web app, iOS and Android apps, Chrome extension, EHR integration and developer API.
Where Nabla is strongest
Nabla Technologies is headquartered in Paris with a second office in New York. The vendor states more than 130 health organizations use it, integrated with US EHRs such as Epic and athenahealth.
Questions to ask before you buy Nabla
Nabla's DPA for non-US clients says data is generally not processed outside the EU, but it names Microsoft Speech and GPT models as subprocessors, so review transfer terms. The help center says anonymized audio is kept in a feedback database indefinitely; ask how this fits your consent process under GDPR and HIPAA. Customers choose hosting regions at setup. Clinicians must review every note and code before use.
