What is PostHog?
PostHog is an open-source product platform that bundles analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments, surveys and error tracking. Its assistant PostHog AI answers questions about product data and builds insights and dashboards, mainly for engineering and product teams.
PostHog offers many products on one data base: product analytics, web analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments, surveys, error tracking, logs, a data warehouse and AI observability. The code is public on GitHub, where the repository had about 40,000 stars on September 28, 2026. The cloud version runs in AWS regions in Frankfurt or Virginia, and each product has a free monthly allowance. PostHog says more than 500,000 teams use its tools.

Questions to ask before you buy PostHog
Usage-based billing across many products makes costs depend on event and recording volumes, so set billing limits. Session replay records end-user behavior and needs consent handling. Choose the EU region at signup if data must stay in Europe. The data processing agreement is available on request, and PostHog AI in Slack was still in beta in September 2026.
