Check before buying: Choose the deployment model first: managed cloud, hybrid cloud or self-hosted open source each change who operates the database and where data lives. If you self-host, plan for updates, backups and monitoring yourself. TigerGraph is a distributed graph database with built-in vector search. Data teams use it to model connected data such as customers, accounts and transactions. Typical uses are fraud detection, customer analytics and graph-based retrieval for AI, run as a managed cloud service or on their own servers.

Check before buying: Graph modeling is a design task, so plan time for schema design and for learning GSQL or openCypher. Savanna prices by instance size and hour, with a regional factor, and the Business Critical tier adds multi-zone availability. The vendor says its HIPAA controls were still awaiting a third-party audit at the time of the page, so verify the current status. Audit reports are available only under a non-disclosure agreement.

turbopuffer is a serverless search engine that keeps all data in object storage and caches it on NVMe SSD and memory for queries. It serves vector, full-text and hybrid search for AI applications with many namespaces and large document counts.

Production use starts at the Basic level. The Startup plan runs on shared resources in development zones without SSO or an SLA, and Enterprise requires a minimum monthly spend of $20,000. The vendor states a SOC 2 attestation without naming the type, so request the report. We found no public data processing agreement in October 2026.

Zilliz offers Zilliz Cloud, a managed vector database built on the open-source Milvus engine. Development teams use it to store embeddings and run similarity, keyword and hybrid search behind RAG applications, recommendations and semantic search, on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.

US privacy rules for stored personal data, such as state laws and HIPAA, remain the buyer's task. The vendor publishes a sub-processor list in its trust center.

LanceDB is an open-source, embedded retrieval library and database for multimodal AI data. It stores vectors together with text, images and video in the Lance columnar format and runs locally or in the cloud without a separate server.
