What is Qdrant?
Qdrant is an open-source vector database from Berlin for semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation and recommendations. Companies run it themselves, use the managed cloud or deploy it in their own infrastructure under Qdrant's management.
The Qdrant engine is open source under Apache 2.0 with more than 34,000 GitHub stars. Qdrant Cloud runs managed clusters on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud in a broad choice of regions. Hybrid Cloud lets customers bring their own Kubernetes infrastructure while using Qdrant's management plane, and Private Cloud offers fully isolated deployments. The company Qdrant Solutions GmbH is based in Berlin and holds SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA attestations.
Qdrant AI features and use cases
- Powers semantic search in applicationsQdrant stores vectors with payload data and returns the nearest matches with filters, for example by customer or language. Product teams add meaning-based search to apps and portals.
- Supplies context to language modelsIn RAG pipelines Qdrant retrieves relevant passages for a question from company documents. Assistants answer from current internal sources rather than from model memory.
- Creates embeddings inside the clusterCloud Inference generates embeddings with selected models in Qdrant Cloud, so text does not need a separate embedding service before storage.
What sets Qdrant apart
- German company with an open-source engine under Apache 2.0.
- Hybrid Cloud keeps data and logs in the customer's infrastructure while Qdrant manages the clusters.
- Free cloud tier with 1 GB RAM and 4 GB disk for prototypes.
Where Qdrant is strongest
Qdrant Solutions GmbH is based in Berlin and registered with the Charlottenburg local court.
