Pricing details
$10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens for short context, $20 and $75 for long context. Batch processing is 50 percent cheaper.
What is GPT-6 Astra?
GPT-6 Astra is OpenAI's most capable model in the API, built for complex reasoning, coding, computer use, research and document creation, and aimed at developers who need the highest quality over the lowest cost.
Astra accepts text and images and returns text, with a context window of 1,050,000 tokens and up to 128,000 output tokens. Reasoning effort can be set to low, medium, high, xhigh or max. It runs through the Chat Completions, Responses and Batch endpoints and supports hosted tools including web search, file search, code interpreter, hosted shell, computer use, skills and MCP. Its knowledge cutoff is April 30, 2026.
GPT-6 Astra AI features and use cases
- Solves multi-step analytical tasksHigh reasoning levels let the model work through long problems such as contract comparisons or financial models before answering. Teams use it where a wrong answer is costly.
- Powers coding and computer-use agentsTools such as hosted shell, apply patch and computer use let developers build agents that edit code or operate software. Engineering teams automate larger tasks end to end.
- Processes very long documentsThe context of about one million tokens fits large document sets in one request. Legal or research teams can ask questions across a whole file collection.
What sets GPT-6 Astra apart
- Five reasoning levels up to max allow cost and depth to be tuned per request.
- Data residency endpoints in ten regions including the EU, the UK and several Asian countries.
Where GPT-6 Astra is strongest

Questions to ask before you buy GPT-6 Astra
Usage is billed per token, so estimate volumes and set spending limits before going live. Regional processing endpoints for data residency cost 10 percent more for models released from March 5, 2026. API data is not used for training unless you opt in, and abuse monitoring logs are kept for up to 30 days unless zero data retention is approved. In the US, check Colorado and Illinois rules if outputs feed decisions about people.
Using GPT-6 Astra in the EU: GDPR and AI Act

Questions about GPT-6 Astra
What does GPT-6 Astra cost?
$10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens for short context. Long context costs $20 and $75, and batch jobs are half price.
Can GPT-6 Astra be used with EU data residency?
OpenAI lists regional storage and processing in Europe (EEA and Switzerland) among other regions. Regional processing costs 10 percent more for newer models.
Does OpenAI train on API data?
Not by default. OpenAI states that API data is not used for training unless the customer opts in.
