What is Notion MCP?

Notion MCP is a remote Model Context Protocol server hosted by Notion that connects AI assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex to a Notion workspace, so they can search, read and write pages and databases.

Users authorize access through OAuth, and the server then offers search across Notion content and connected sources, reading, creating and updating pages, and creating databases. Workspace owners manage connected clients under Settings and Connections, and organization owners can list and revoke member connections through the Admin API. Notion also publishes an MIT-licensed local server on GitHub, which showed about 4,600 stars and a push on September 20, 2026.

Notion MCP AI features and use cases

  • Finds knowledge from the assistantAn assistant searches Notion pages and connected sources while working on a task. Employees get answers from team wikis without leaving their coding tool or chat.
  • Writes results back to NotionThe assistant can create or update pages, for example meeting notes, specs or status reports. Documentation stays current without manual copying.
  • Sets up structured databasesCreating databases from the assistant helps teams turn a list of tasks or requirements into a structured Notion database in one step.

What sets Notion MCP apart

  • Hosted by Notion with OAuth, so users do not manage API tokens or run a local process.
  • Admins can review and revoke member connections through the Admin API.

Questions to ask before you buy Notion MCP

Decide which AI clients may connect to your workspace and review connections regularly, since assistants act with the permissions of the authorizing user. Notion content passes to the model provider of the AI client, so check which assistants are approved for internal data. Ask Notion about plan requirements, which the MCP documentation does not state.
