What is Optro?

Optro, known as AuditBoard until March 2026, is a governance, risk and compliance platform for internal audit, SOX compliance and risk teams in large enterprises. Its Optro AI layer adds recommendations, generative drafting and autonomous control testing.

Optro covers audit planning and fieldwork, SOX and controls management, compliance, third-party risk, IT risk and AI governance. AuditBoard announced the new name Optro in March 2026. Backed by the investor Hg, the company acquired the AI governance tool FairNow in 2025. In May 2026 it announced the purchase of the SOX testing start-up Midship, which it plans to integrate into controls management. Optro is based in Los Angeles and says more than half of the Fortune 500 use the platform. Its trust center lists SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II reports and ISO 27001, and the application runs on AWS infrastructure that meets FedRAMP Moderate requirements.

Optro AI features and use cases

  • Automates control testing stepsAutonomous Testing handles sampling, evidence gathering and document annotation for control tests. SOX and internal audit teams spend less time pulling samples and marking up evidence and more time on exceptions and conclusions.
  • Maps changing compliance requirementsIntelligent Recommendations, built on machine learning models developed in-house, suggest mappings between controls and requirements when regulations or frameworks change. Compliance teams update their control sets faster and with fewer gaps.
  • Drafts questionnaire answersGenerative features based on Microsoft Azure OpenAI draft responses to vendor assessments and security questionnaires from existing content. Teams answering repeated questionnaires from customers and partners avoid rewriting the same answers.
  • Connects your own AI modelsAn MCP server lets customers connect language models directly to Optro data. Customers can opt in to Optro AI tools at any time, which gives audit and risk teams control over when AI is switched on.

What sets Optro apart

  • Lists SOC 1 Type II, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 in its trust center and publishes its subprocessor list and data processing addendum.
  • AI features are opt-in per customer and combine in-house machine learning with Microsoft Azure OpenAI.
  • Added AI governance through the 2025 acquisition of FairNow and SOX testing technology through the 2026 purchase of Midship.
