Smokeball AI features and pricing (October 2026)

Smokeball is practice management software for law firms from a Chicago based vendor. Solo practitioners and small to mid-sized firms use it for matters, billing, trust accounting and documents, with an AI assistant called Archie working inside each matter.

Smokeball covers intake and lead management, matters, calendaring and tasks, a client portal, invoicing and trust accounting, payments, document automation with TemplateLab, email management, automatic time tracking with AutoTime and firm insights. Four plans (Bill, Boost, Grow, Prosper+) add modules step by step. The vendor, Smokeball Incorporated, is based in Chicago, launched there in 2013 and added offices in Australia in 2016 and London in 2023. It targets people-focused practice areas such as family law, personal injury and probate. Archie AI is sold as an add-on, and the pages we checked state no customer count.

• Summarizes matters and suggests next stepsArchie produces summaries of a matter or document, including meetings, deadlines and tasks, and proposes next steps when a matter changes status. Lawyers get oriented faster when they pick up a file, and fewer deadlines depend on someone reading the whole file.

• Supports client communication and intakeThe vendor lists Communicate and Intake as features powered by Smokeball AI, included in Boost and higher plans and in Prosper+ respectively. The pages checked do not explain the details, so ask for a demo of both.

• Archie works within a single matter and, per the vendor, does not mix information across matters; only users with access to a matter can use it there.
• The vendor states that customer data is not provided to third parties for AI model training and describes zero-data-retention agreements.
• Modules for trust accounting, payments and automatic time tracking sit in the same product as matters, which suits firms that bill by the hour.

Prices are not published and depend on users, plan, term and add-ons, and Archie AI is an add-on, so ask for a quote that includes it.
