What is Soraban?
Soraban is tax workflow software for accounting firms that prepare returns for clients in the United States. It runs client intake, document collection, workpaper preparation, data entry into tax software and delivery of the finished return, with AI handling extraction and a first review.
The platform has four modules. Collect is a client portal with intake questionnaires, automatic sorting and reminders for missing documents. Prepare builds workpapers and leadsheets, and Connect enters the extracted data into UltraTax, Lacerte, Drake or CCH Axcess, with ProConnect listed as coming soon. Deliver assembles the return packet and collects IRS Form 8879 e-signatures and payments.
Soraban was founded in 2021, went through Y Combinator and is based in Tempe, Arizona. Altos Ventures led its Series A, announced in April 2025. The company reports more than 350 accounting firms as users and states that onboarding takes four weeks or less.
Soraban AI features and use cases
- Enters tax form dataConnect reads W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, brokerage statements and operating agreements field by field, keeps the box number and a link to the source document and posts the values into the tax software. Ambiguous entries go to one-click review, so preparers start at review instead of rekeying.
- Reviews workpapers for gapsAI Review in the Prepare module flags missing documents, unreported income categories and numbers that do not tie to source documents, with an audit trail. Preparers still sign off at every step but spend less time hunting for gaps before a return is finalized.
- Builds the workpaper binderAuto-Workpapers assembles a binder with source documents and leadsheets side by side before preparation starts. Reviewers check figures directly against the source and can rerun the build after corrections instead of organizing the file by hand.
What sets Soraban apart
- Covers the return cycle from client intake to e-signature and payment as an addition to the firm's existing tax software.
- Posts extracted data directly into UltraTax, Lacerte, Drake and CCH Axcess.
- States that client documents and extracted data are not used to train models or shared with outside AI providers for learning.
- Holds a SOC 2 Type II report, audited annually, and uses e-signatures that meet NIST IAL2 identity requirements.

Questions to ask before you buy Soraban
Soraban is built for US tax returns and US tax software, so firms outside the United States will find little use for it. Check that your tax software is supported, since ProConnect was still listed as coming soon in September 2026. Prices are not published. The security page names neither the hosting provider nor its region, so request the SOC 2 report, hosting details and subprocessor list through the trust center.
