What is Viva Glint?
Microsoft Viva Glint is an employee engagement survey platform inside the Microsoft Viva suite, used by large organizations to run pulse and lifecycle surveys and analyze sentiment through dashboards, benchmarks and generative AI comment summaries for managers and HR leaders.
Viva Glint began as the standalone platform Glint, which LinkedIn (a Microsoft subsidiary) acquired in October 2018 and which has since been folded into the Microsoft Viva employee experience suite. It runs engagement, lifecycle, 360-degree and pulse surveys, with heat maps, internal and external benchmarking, automated at-risk alerts and guided manager action plans. It requires a minimum of 50 licensed seats and is sold standalone or bundled into Viva Suite alongside Viva Insights, Engage, Pulse and Learning. Viva Glint is developed by Microsoft, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, and runs on the Microsoft 365 infrastructure used by enterprise and upper-midmarket customers worldwide.
Viva Glint AI features and use cases
- Summarizes open-ended survey commentsCopilot in Viva Glint reads raw comments from a completed survey cycle and produces a written summary on request, covering up to 8,000 comments per program. It respects existing confidentiality thresholds and permissions, so a manager only sees a summary of feedback they were already allowed to view.
- Surfaces themes from comments automaticallyNarrative Intelligence groups open-text comments into topics using natural language processing and highlights which ones come with concrete, prescriptive suggestions for a focus area. Copilot-enhanced topic assignment then labels up to ten top topics per survey, so HR does not have to read every comment by hand.
- Highlights results at the top of reportsCopilot Highlights auto-generates a short card summarizing scores, trends, team differences and top opportunities as soon as a supported report opens. Managers get an instant read on where a team stands before digging into the full dashboard.
- Answers questions about feedback in natural languageUsers can ask Copilot in Viva Glint to filter and summarize comments by item, sentiment or attribute through a chat panel instead of building a report manually. If a requested filter is outside the user's permissions, Copilot still answers but silently drops that filter rather than exposing restricted data.
- Links engagement scores to collaboration dataWhere an organization also licenses Viva Insights, Glint survey results can be viewed alongside Viva Insights metrics on work habits and collaboration patterns, giving HR a combined view of stated sentiment and observed work behavior in one place.
What sets Viva Glint apart
- Requires a minimum of 50 licensed seats per tenant, positioning it above small-team tools and toward midsize and large organizations.
- Sold standalone or bundled into Viva Suite with Viva Insights, Engage, Pulse and Learning, billed per user per month on an annual commitment.
- Customer data resides in one of three fixed regions (West US, EU or Australia) determined by the Microsoft 365 tenant location, not by the individual user.
- Survey and dashboard UI covers more than 60 languages, letting a single global program run with locally worded questions rather than English-only surveys.
Where Viva Glint is strongest
Viva Glint is sold worldwide through Microsoft 365, with data residency in the US, the EU or Australia.
Questions to ask before you buy Viva Glint
Clarify whether the 50-seat minimum and per-user annual pricing fit the budget, and which of the three residency regions (West US, EU, Australia) applies to your tenant. Survey comments from California staff fall under the CCPA, which covers employee data the same way as consumer data. EU customers should check that the standard Microsoft data processing agreement covers their Glint tenant.

Questions about Viva Glint
Is Viva Glint still a separate product from Microsoft Viva?
No standalone Glint product exists anymore; it is sold and administered as Viva Glint inside the Microsoft Viva family, either alone or bundled in Viva Suite. Legacy surveys and data originally created under the older LinkedIn Glint branding still migrate forward into the current platform.
Where is our survey data stored?
Data is stored at rest in one of three fixed regions: West US, the EU, or Australia. Which region applies depends on where your Microsoft 365 tenant is hosted, not on individual employee location, and Microsoft's documentation recommends confirming the assignment with your tenant administrator.
Does Copilot in Viva Glint count as high-risk AI under the EU AI Act?
Microsoft states that it does not classify Copilot in Viva Glint as high-risk under the EU AI Act, since it only summarizes feedback rather than making decisions about hiring, promotion or termination. Organizations should still confirm this assessment fits their own use case, since obligations for high-risk employment AI apply from December 2, 2027.
