Jina AI offers embedding and reranker models through an API for search, retrieval-augmented generation and agents. The Berlin company has been part of Elastic since October 2025 and also sells its models for private deployment.

Check before buying: Self-hosting means your team runs, secures and updates the model, including GPU capacity, monitoring and patching. Check the license terms for commercial use and keep a record of which version you deploy. If outputs feed decisions about people, a human must stay in the loop. Changing the embedding model later means re-embedding all documents, so test retrieval quality on your own data first.

jina-embeddings-v5-text is the fifth generation of multilingual embedding models from Jina AI in Berlin, now part of Elastic, offered in a small and a nano version for search, matching and classification.
