What is Dext?
Dext is document capture and bookkeeping automation software for small businesses, bookkeepers and accounting firms. It extracts data from receipts, invoices and statements and publishes it to accounting systems such as Xero, QuickBooks and Sage.
Dext, formerly Receipt Bank, collects receipts, invoices and expenses through a mobile app, email forwarding and bank feeds, extracts the data and syncs it to more than 36 accounting platforms. Further modules cover employee expense claims with approvals, supplier statements, bank statement extraction and document storage for at least ten years.
The company is based in London and was acquired by IRIS Software Group in December 2024. Dext states that it serves more than 700,000 businesses and 12,000 accounting and bookkeeping firms. Typical users are small business owners and the accountants who keep their books.
Dext AI features and use cases
- Extracts data from receipts and invoicesDocuments sent by app, email or bank feed are read automatically, and supplier, date, amounts and tax are extracted and categorized. The vendor states an accuracy of 99.9 percent. Bookkeepers stop typing paper receipts and spend their time checking exceptions.
- Learns how each client codes costsDext AI Assist learns from user decisions and corrections and suggests category, tax and description values for cost and sales items. It recognizes patterns such as one supplier being coded differently for different clients, which reduces repetitive coding work for firms with many clients.
- Reads line items and statementsAdd-on extraction reads individual invoice line items, bank statements and supplier statements. Accountants can reconcile supplier balances and fill gaps in bank data without keying figures from PDF statements by hand.
What sets Dext apart
- Works as a capture layer in front of existing accounting software, with connections to more than 36 platforms including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and Zoho.
- Pricing is based on monthly document volume per business, with a separate per-client model for accounting firms and AI Assist sold as an add-on.
- Help center documents single sign-on with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, JumpCloud and Intuit, plus passkeys and two-factor authentication.

Questions to ask before you buy Dext
Estimate your monthly document volume, since the plan is priced by allowance, and decide whether AI Assist is worth its extra fee. Check that your accounting system is among the supported integrations. Dext hosts on AWS and names a data protection officer, but storage regions and a public subprocessor list were not openly readable in our September 2026 check, so request the data processing agreement for UK GDPR review.
