What is Harness?

Harness is a software delivery platform that covers continuous integration, continuous delivery, infrastructure as code, testing and security, and adds AI agents that generate pipelines, verify deployments and troubleshoot failed builds, mainly for platform and DevOps teams.

Harness offers modules for DevOps, testing, security and operations that deploy to AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. The Essentials plan bundles CI, CD, infrastructure as code and security testing for up to 500 users, while Enterprise lets customers combine modules and adds unlimited users and organizations. A free plan includes Harness Open Source and the Litmus Chaos engineering project. Harness is headquartered in San Francisco and connects to tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Jira, ServiceNow and Slack.

Harness AI features and use cases

  • Generates delivery pipelinesEngineers describe what a pipeline should do and Harness AI generates it, after which it can be refined in the visual editor. New services get a working pipeline faster than by assembling each step by hand.
  • Verifies deployments and rolls backAI verification checks whether a deployment behaves as expected and triggers an automated rollback when a change fails. Policy as code (OPA), role-based access and immutable audit trails govern what agents may do, so teams keep control over production.
  • Troubleshoots failed buildsAgents read CI logs, trace the root cause of a failure and commit a proposed fix to the pull request branch. Developers spend less time digging through logs.
  • Scans code for security issuesThe Security Testing Agent runs AI-assisted static analysis, dependency and supply chain scans within the delivery process. Security findings appear before release instead of after.

What sets Harness apart

  • Covers the delivery chain from CI and CD to infrastructure as code, chaos engineering, security testing and cloud cost management.
  • Holds ISO/IEC 27001, 27017 and 27018 certifications and a SOC 2 Type II report, according to its trust center.
  • Free plan based on Harness Open Source.

Questions to ask before you buy Harness

Paid plans are only priced on request, and Essentials cannot be deployed on premises. The trust center names AWS as hosting infrastructure but no regions, and the data processing agreement is available on request; the subprocessor list is public. Agents can change pipelines and roll back deployments, so define policies and approval rules first.
