What is LlamaParse?
LlamaParse is a hosted API that converts complex documents into structured, AI-ready output for RAG and agent applications. It is aimed at developer teams that do not want to operate their own parsing models.
LlamaParse is part of the LlamaIndex cloud platform. It handles more than 90 formats, including PDFs, scanned documents, invoices and healthcare forms, and supports more than 100 languages. Customers choose between a global region and an EU region at cloud.eu.llamaindex.ai, and Enterprise customers can use a private VPC. Pricing is credit based, with a free plan of 10,000 credits and up to 100 users. LlamaIndex states that the platform has processed more than 1 billion documents. The pricing page lists SOC 2, HIPAA and GDPR compliance for all plans, including the free plan, and the FAQ names SOC 2 Type II.
LlamaParse AI features and use cases
- Parses complex layoutsLayout-aware parsing keeps headings, columns and tables in order. A RAG index built on the output answers questions about long reports more reliably.
- Reads charts and tablesMultimodal parsing interprets charts and tables and returns them in structured form. Figures in financial or technical documents become usable data.
- Balances cost and qualityParsing modes let teams choose how much accuracy they buy per page. Simple documents run cheaply, while difficult ones get the more expensive modes.
What sets LlamaParse apart
- Separate EU region for customers who need data processed in Europe.
- Published credit prices and a free plan that allows up to 100 users.
- SSO and private VPC deployment are limited to the Enterprise plan.
Where LlamaParse is strongest
Cloud service with a global region and a separate EU region, without a stated country focus.
Questions to ask before you buy LlamaParse
Decide between the global and the EU region before uploading documents, and request the data processing agreement for your contract. Credits are consumed per page and mode, so estimate monthly volume. SSO and private VPC deployment are Enterprise features.
