What is Sardine?
Sardine is a US risk platform for banks, fintechs and merchants that detects fraud and supports anti-money laundering (AML) compliance. It combines device and behavior signals, machine learning scores, rules and AI agents that prepare investigations for human analysts.
The platform covers onboarding with KYC, KYB, document and bank account verification, fraud prevention for payments, bank transactions, card issuing and account takeovers, and AML work such as transaction monitoring, customer risk rating, sanctions screening and case management. A Risk SDK collects device and behavioral biometrics data in web and mobile apps, and a no-code rules engine lets teams test rules in shadow mode.
SardineAI Corp. was co-founded by Soups Ranjan and Aditya Goel and runs the Sonar data consortium. The vendor states it serves more than 450 enterprise customers and has raised $170 million. It fits regulated institutions with their own fraud or compliance team.
Sardine AI features and use cases
- Scores fraud risk in real timeMachine learning models trained across the consortium score onboarding, login, account funding and payment events using device, behavior, identity and transaction features. Customers can also train custom models or upload their own. SHAP values show which signals drove each score, which helps analysts set thresholds and explain decisions.
- Clears screening alertsIn Agentic AML Ops, the Sanctions Screening, PEP Screening and Doc KYC agents review alerts and propose a disposition with a rationale, for example for name mismatches or transliteration errors. Analysts make the final call and spend less time on obvious false positives.
- Investigates fraud ringsThe Graph Analyst Agent maps links between users, devices, addresses and payment instruments, while the OSINT Search Agent gathers and summarizes open-source findings on customers and beneficial owners. Investigators get a prepared picture of coordinated abuse instead of assembling it by hand.
- Drafts SARs and dispute evidenceThe SAR Generation Agent drafts Suspicious Activity Reports from transactions, alerts, customer history and investigation notes. For chargebacks, the Dispute Filing Agent collects transaction, device and delivery data into an evidence package per reason code for human review.
- Writes rules from plain languageThe Rule Assistant Agent turns a plain-language description into fraud or transaction monitoring rules and helps optimize existing ones. Risk teams can adjust their rule set without waiting for engineers and test new rules in shadow mode first.
What sets Sardine apart
- Fraud prevention and AML compliance run on one platform with shared device data, case management and a single dashboard.
- The Sonar consortium shares device reputation and identity signals across member institutions under GLBA, 314(b) and FCRA frameworks.
- Customers can run their own ML models next to Sardine models in the Model Garden, connected to Snowflake or BigQuery.
- AI agents return recommendations with a rationale and audit trail, while analysts keep the final decision.

Questions to ask before you buy Sardine
Ask where your data is stored: the privacy policy allows processing worldwide and relies on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses. Consortium sharing rests on US rules such as GLBA and 314(b), so check what applies elsewhere. Fraud detection is excluded from the EU AI Act high-risk list, but the Credit Underwriting module may count as creditworthiness scoring. Request SOC 2 reports through the trust center.
