What is Calamari?

Calamari is a modular Polish HR platform for leave management, time and attendance, core HR records and performance reviews, aimed at small and midsize distributed teams, with an MCP connector that lets AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT handle everyday HR requests.

Calamari, based in Warsaw and registered as Calamari sp. z o.o. sp.k., sells four modules, time off, time and attendance, core HR and performance, that customers combine as needed rather than buying one fixed suite. The vendor states more than 130,000 employees across 106 countries use it, with named customers including JetBrains, UNICEF and Netguru, and pricing is published per employee per month rather than quote-only.

Calamari AI features and use cases

  • Handles leave requests in plain languageEmployees can request time off, including partial days and naming a substitute, by typing a natural-language request instead of filling out a multi-field form. This cuts a routine task down to one sentence for both the employee and the approving manager.
  • Fills timesheets from a written commandStaff can clock in and out or log hours for past or future dates, and assign work time to projects, with a written command instead of opening separate timesheet screens.
  • Suggests smart vacation timingThe connected AI assistant proposes good leave dates based on a person's existing schedule and the holiday calendar, instead of an employee checking both manually. This helps staff use leave more efficiently around public holidays.
  • Answers schedule and balance questions instantlyEmployees and managers can ask their connected AI assistant about remaining leave balance, team availability or work schedule details and get an immediate answer. This replaces a routine question to HR with self-service.

What sets Calamari apart

  • Publishes per-employee pricing by module (from €1.80 or $2 per employee per month with annual billing) instead of quote-only pricing.
  • Employee-facing AI runs through an MCP connector to the customer's own AI assistant, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot, instead of a built-in chatbot.
  • 14-day free trial with no credit card required, rather than a demo-only sales process.
  • Used across 106 countries according to the vendor, without a single named country focus.
