What is Clara?
Clara is a spend management platform for companies in Mexico, Brazil and Colombia that combines corporate cards, reimbursements and vendor payments. Its AI extracts receipt data, recovers tax invoices, finds savings and answers spend questions in a chat.
Clara issues corporate cards and handles expense reporting, reimbursements, vendor payments and travel spend, with approval rules, spending policies and connectors to ERPs such as SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, TOTVS and Omie. It was founded in 2020 and states that more than 40,000 companies use it. The Mexican entity CF Tech is based in Mexico City, and a separate payment institution operates in São Paulo.
Because the card is issued by local regulated entities, Clara fits companies or subsidiaries with operations in Mexico, Brazil or Colombia, not buyers elsewhere.
Clara AI features and use cases
- Extracts receipt dataClara's AI reads each receipt, detects errors, assigns an expense category and validates the merchant details. The vendor states an accuracy of 99 percent. Finance teams check exceptions instead of typing receipts.
- Recovers tax invoicesClara converts simple receipts into valid tax invoices, CFDI in Mexico and NF-e in Brazil, without the employee requesting them from the merchant. This helps companies deduct expenses that would otherwise lack a formal invoice.
- Answers spend questions in a chatThe Financial Analyst agent lets finance staff ask about spend trends or quarterly forecasts in a chat and returns the answer from company transaction data. Controllers get figures without building a report.
- Finds savings in card spendInsights analyzes transactions and points to duplicate subscriptions, fee changes and vendors whose spend is rising. Teams can cancel or renegotiate before costs build up.
What sets Clara apart
- Combines card issuing through regulated local entities with AI expense processing in one product.
- Security page names ISO 27001, PCI DSS 4.0 and SOC 2 Type II; a free plan exists in Mexico with no per-user fees in any plan.
Where Clara is strongest
Clara runs its Mexican company CF Tech, a SOFOM lender, from Mexico City. The product turns receipts into Mexican CFDI tax invoices through a connection to the tax authority SAT.
Questions to ask before you buy Clara
Clara requires a local entity in Mexico, Brazil or Colombia, since cards are issued by regulated local companies. Ask which country's contract applies, where data is hosted and which processing terms apply under Mexico's data protection law or Brazil's LGPD; the Brazilian privacy policy allows processing by vendors abroad. Check the ERP connector for your system and whether CFDI or NF-e recovery covers your merchants.
