What is Finmatics?
Finmatics automates document capture and bookkeeping for accounting firms and in-house finance teams in Austria and Germany. Its AI agent Fin reads invoices and receipts, drafts postings and hands them to the accounting system.
Finmatics collects documents from a portal, an app or email, sorts them into incoming invoices, outgoing invoices, cash receipts and special cases, and turns them into posting proposals. It handles paper scans, PDF and image files as well as e-invoice formats such as ZUGFeRD, XRechnung, ebInterface and UBL. Higher plans add training and analytics centers, approval workflows and single sign-on. The company was founded in 2016, is based in Vienna and belongs to the Visma group. It reports more than 1,300 customers in six countries and connects to DATEV, BMD, RZL, Agenda, SAP and Microsoft Business Central.
Finmatics AI features and use cases
- Sorts and reads incoming documentsFin collects documents from the portal, app or inbox, recognizes whether each one is a purchase invoice, sales invoice or cash receipt and extracts all fields regardless of layout. Bookkeepers no longer type header data by hand and start with a sorted inbox.
- Drafts postings from line itemsThe agent reads invoice line items by content and builds matching postings, including invoices with mixed product groups and tax rates that need to be split across several accounts. Staff check a finished proposal instead of coding each line.
- Learns rules from correctionsWhen Fin is unsure, it asks instead of guessing, and each correction becomes a rule for similar documents. Over time the proposals follow the firm's own habits, so repeat vendors need less review.
- Checks documents for errorsFrom the Plus plan, an intelligent document check verifies mandatory invoice details, detects duplicates and validates VAT IDs, with a direct warning when something does not match. Bookkeepers catch incomplete or duplicate invoices before posting instead of correcting them in the ledger later.
What sets Finmatics apart
- Connects to DATEV as well as BMD and RZL, which covers the main accounting systems of Austrian and German tax firms.
- Publishes flat monthly plans for 3,000 booking lines, with DATEV integration and bank transactions as priced add-ons.
- Reads e-invoice formats from Germany and Austria, including XRechnung, ZUGFeRD and ebInterface.
Where Finmatics is strongest
Finmatics is based in Vienna and connects to BMD and RZL, the accounting systems common in Austria, plus DATEV for Germany.
Questions to ask before you buy Finmatics
Plan for the add-on costs: the direct DATEV Meine Steuern interface, bank transactions and document transfer to DATEV Unternehmen Online are charged monthly on top of the plan, and onboarding is a one-time fee. Approvals and single sign-on are only in the Enterprise plan. Data is hosted in European data centers; ask for the data processing agreement and the list of subprocessors, which were not published in September 2026, and check how Fin's rules are documented for GoBD purposes.
