What is LegalOn?
LegalOn is an AI platform for in-house legal teams that reviews and redlines contracts against playbooks, answers contract questions, manages legal matters and turns signed agreements into searchable data.
LegalOn covers contract review in the browser and in Microsoft Word, an AI assistant, matter management with intake from email, forms, Slack and Microsoft Teams, and Vault, a repository for executed contracts. Entity and board management came in with the 2025 acquisition of Fides. The platform ships with more than 135 attorney-built playbooks and over 100 templates.
LegalOn Technologies was founded by two corporate lawyers in Japan and has headquarters in Tokyo and San Francisco. According to the vendor, more than 9,000 organizations use it across North America, Europe and Asia. Plans range from a single general counsel to large legal departments, so an in-house lawyer is the minimum setup.
LegalOn AI features and use cases
- Reviews and redlines contractsLegalOn reads first- or third-party contracts, flags risks by severity and proposes redlines based on the team's own playbooks or its attorney-built ones. Lawyers spend less time reading line by line and apply the same standards to every agreement.
- Answers questions about contractsLegalOn Assistant works in Word and on the web. It answers questions about the open contract or the whole library, drafts fallback language, generates issues lists and summarizes obligations. Routine questions get answered without searching through documents by hand.
- Turns signed contracts into dataVault extracts key terms, renewal dates and obligations from executed contracts into a configurable table. Vault Projects applies plain-language criteria across a set of documents, so teams can see which contracts auto-renew or carry unusual termination rights.
- Handles intake and triage with agentsThe Intake Agent follows up on missing information in legal requests, and the Triage Agent screens low-risk agreements against playbooks. Standard deals move on faster, while exceptions are routed to an attorney for review and approval.
- Translates foreign-language contractsThe Translation Agent, built with DeepL, turns a contract into English for review and translates only the redlines back into the original language. The pricing page lists more than 28 languages for this add-on.
What sets LegalOn apart
- Ships with more than 135 attorney-built playbooks, plus optional international playbooks for commercial contracts in 23 countries.
- Security page lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 27017:2015, with hosting in the US on AWS and Google Cloud.
- Suites include view-only licenses for business users, and usage of review, redlining and the assistant is not capped.
- Covers entity and board management in addition to contract work, following the acquisition of Fides.

Questions to ask before you buy LegalOn
LegalOn does not publish prices, so ask for a quote sized to your team and the suite you need, and check which features are add-ons. The US security page states hosting in the US on AWS and Google Cloud, so confirm the storage region for your account. Enterprise SSO is listed from the Contracting Suite upward. Ask which LLM providers process your contracts beyond Microsoft's Azure OpenAI service.

Questions about LegalOn
Where does LegalOn host customer data?
The security page states that LegalOn is hosted in the US on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit, and each customer account runs in a segregated environment.
Are customer contracts used to train AI models?
According to the pricing and security pages, customer data never trains third-party foundation models. LegalOn names Microsoft's Azure OpenAI service as an example provider and says no customer data is stored there, even for abuse monitoring.
Can LegalOn review contracts under non-US law?
The pricing page offers jurisdiction-specific playbooks for US agreements and contracts under the laws of England and Wales. International playbooks for common commercial contracts in 23 countries are available as an add-on.
