What is Nominal?

Nominal is an agentic AI platform for accounting teams in mid-sized and larger multi-entity companies. It plugs into existing ERPs and deploys agents for flux analysis, bank reconciliation, transaction matching, monitoring and intercompany consolidation.

Nominal covers close management with reconciliations and journal entries, multi-entity consolidation and reporting, and intercompany matching and settlement. A shadow ledger creates a unified data layer across systems and currencies. It works with Workday, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle, Sage Intacct and SAP without replacing them. The founders previously built the data security start-up Cognigo, which NetApp acquired. The company has offices in New York and Tel Aviv and names customers such as Booksy, Cloudbeds, Jiffy Lube and Xactly.

Nominal AI features and use cases

  • Explains variancesFlux Analysis Agents compare periods and write variance explanations without spreadsheet work. Controllers review the commentary instead of pulling data from several systems to explain each movement. The data comes from the systems connected through Nominal's shadow ledger.
  • Reconciles bank accountsBank Reconciliation Agents match bank transactions with the ledger and flag differences. In multi-entity groups with many bank accounts this removes much of the manual matching that slows the close.
  • Matches across entities and systemsTransaction Matching Agents match transactions across ledgers, entities and ERP systems, including intercompany balances. Group accounting resolves intercompany differences earlier and with less manual research. This is useful when subsidiaries run on different ERPs or currencies.
  • Monitors transactionsTrigger Agents watch financial data in real time and Transaction Patrol Agents enforce accounting policies on postings. The team learns about misbookings during the month instead of at the close, and approval workflows keep people in control.

What sets Nominal apart

  • Works across several ERPs at once through a shadow ledger, which suits groups with different systems per subsidiary.
  • States adherence to SOC 1 and SOC 2 standards and offers a read-only mode with audit trails.

Questions to ask before you buy Nominal

Request pricing, which Nominal does not publish. Clarify which ERPs and entities will be connected and whether agents write back to the ERP or only prepare entries. Ask for the SOC 1 report for your auditors, the hosting region, subprocessors and the data processing agreement, which the security page does not detail.
