Personio AI features, pricing and GDPR (September 2026)

Personio is a human resources platform for small and midsize employers in Europe, combining HR administration, recruiting and performance management with an AI layer that answers workforce questions and increasingly automates candidate screening.

Personio bundles core HR administration, recruiting, onboarding and performance management in one system, aimed at small and midsize companies rather than large multinational enterprises. The company is headquartered in Munich and reported reaching profitability in 2026, a position it used to acquire aurio, a Munich-based recruiting AI startup whose technology is being folded into the platform; Personio states its recruiting tools already reach around 9,000 customers. The pricing page lists starting prices per employee per month, from 7.60 euros for HR plans, while the final price is set by quote based on headcount, plan tier and add-on apps.

• Answers workforce data questions instantlyThe Personio Assistant answers questions about headcount, absences or org structure directly in the platform instead of requiring a report to be built first. HR generalists get a direct answer to routine data questions, freeing time otherwise spent pulling exports.
• Summarizes performance feedbackThe AI Performance Summary condenses the written feedback on an employee from the past twelve months, covering manager, peer and upward reviews, continuous feedback and performance notes, and gives the most recent manager review the most weight. Self-reviews and ratings are excluded, at least three entries are required, and only people who can already see the underlying feedback can view the summary.
• Pre-screens incoming applicationsThe Talent Screening Agent checks incoming applications against criteria that recruiters set themselves or have the AI suggest from the job description, such as location, languages, years of experience and education, shows which criteria each application meets and sorts the list accordingly, while the decision stays with people. Personio is rolling the feature out gradually to all accounts and bills it by usage, according to its help center at 80 AI credits per automatically screened application.
• Reads pay stubs when moving to payrollWhen a company moves to Personio Payroll, an AI reads uploaded pay stubs, extracting data such as name, address, social insurance details, tax ID and tax class, and proposes the values for employee profiles. Nothing is imported until a person with Personio Payroll editing rights has reviewed it, and according to Personio processing runs on its own AWS servers in the EU without training on customer data.

• Bundles HR administration, recruiting, performance and payroll preparation in one platform; AI features were added later, such as Personio Assistant, launched in beta in April 2025, and Personio is expanding its recruiting AI after acquiring aurio in April 2026.
• Lists starting prices per employee per month on its pricing page, such as from 7.60 euros for HR plans, with the final price set by quote based on headcount, plan tier and add-on apps.
• Interface available in 18 languages according to the help center, including German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish and Turkish, with data hosted in the EU, positioning it for European rather than global buyers.

Personio is headquartered in Munich; according to its consolidated financial statements for 2023, 89 percent of revenue came from the DACH region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Before rolling Personio out, confirm which modules are actually needed since pricing is quote based, and check integration with existing payroll or time tracking systems. In Germany, involve the works council early: AI summaries of performance feedback can fall under Section 87(1) No. 6 BetrVG co-determination, and candidate screening through the Talent Screening Agent sits in a category the EU AI Act treats as high risk for recruitment once its obligations apply from December 2, 2027.
