Best AI customer service chatbots: 8 tools ranked on published evidence (October 2026)
Ranked by our published criteria, the best AI customer service chatbots as of October 2, 2026 are Fin, Tidio and Yellow.ai. Fin publishes $0.99 per outcome and names nine helpdesks it runs on, Tidio publishes a free plan and paid plans from $24.17 a month, and Yellow.ai publishes a free plan with 500 chat sessions. Four of the eight publish an amount, and the ranking scores what vendors publish, not how well a bot answers your customers.
- Eight chatbots with a full profile in our directory made the list. Forethought and Cognigy were left out, Forethought because it is now part of Zendesk and publishes no price.
- Four of the eight publish an amount: Fin, Tidio, Yellow.ai and moinAI. Sierra and Decagon publish only a pricing unit, and Ada and Kore.ai publish nothing on the pages we checked.
- Only Tidio and Yellow.ai offer a free plan. Fin offers a 14-day trial, and the other five state no free option.
- Prices are not comparable across vendors: Fin charges per outcome, Tidio per plan and billable conversation, Yellow.ai per resolution after 500 sessions, and moinAI a flat monthly fee in euros.
- A company is responsible for what its chatbot tells customers, as a 2024 tribunal ruling against Air Canada showed, and the EU AI Act requires telling people they are talking to an AI system.
The best AI customer service chatbots answer questions from your help content, take simple actions such as order lookups, and pass a conversation to a person with the context attached. Some are standalone chatbots, others sit on top of the helpdesk you already run. This list ranks eight chatbots that have a full profile in our directory and describe their chat product publicly.
We checked every price, channel, integration and certificate statement on the vendors' own pages on October 2, 2026, and we are paid by none of them. We did not run a single test conversation, so the ranking measures how much a buyer can verify before a demo and says nothing about answer quality. Where a vendor publishes nothing, the table says so, because that is a question for the sales call.
AI chatbots for customer service in our directory
Chatbots are a niche inside our support category. Our directory lists 38 entries in the support chatbots niche, next to 61 tools in the whole support category. The niche includes some entries whose main niche is elsewhere, such as helpdesks and email tools that also ship a bot, so the eight below are the ones that sell a chat agent for customer service as their core product.
The group is mostly American: 27 of the niche entries are headquartered in the United States. Security reports are common, 29 name SOC 2 and 17 name ISO 27001, while 16 list pricing on request. For what these agents resolve and how resolutions are counted, see our analysis of AI customer service agents.

All eight chatbots compared: pricing, channels and compliance
The table lists what each vendor says on its own pages. Four of the eight publish an amount, but the amounts measure different things: a per-outcome fee at Fin, plan prices tied to billable conversations at Tidio, a per-resolution fee after 500 free sessions at Yellow.ai, and a flat monthly fee in euros at moinAI. Sierra and Decagon publish how they charge, per outcome or per conversation, but no amounts.
Channel lists are the vendors' own, so a missing channel means only that the page does not name it. Data hosting is stated by two vendors: Fin lets you choose the US, the EU or Australia, and moinAI states hosting on German servers. For the other six, hosting is a question for the sales call.

How we ranked the chatbots
Each chatbot gets 0 to 2 points on four criteria. Channels named: 2 points if the vendor names or counts five or more channels, 1 point for two to four, 0 for none. Price transparency: 2 points for a published amount, 1 point for a pricing unit or model without amounts, 0 for nothing. Compliance named: 2 points for three or more certificates or frameworks on the vendor's pages, 1 point for one or two.
Systems named: 2 points if the vendor names three or more helpdesk, CRM or shop systems it connects to, 1 point if it mentions integrations or other systems without such names, 0 for none. Ties are broken by price transparency, then alphabetically. That puts Fin ahead of Tidio at 8 points each. No vendor paid for a position, and no link on this page is an affiliate link. We left answer quality and resolution rates out because every vendor counts them differently and none is independently audited.

Sources: [1]
1. Fin: nine named helpdesks and a published per-outcome price
Fin is an AI agent that runs on its own helpdesk or on top of others. The pricing page lists channels from Messenger, email and WhatsApp to SMS, Instagram, Slack and voice, plus an API, and names Intercom, Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Dixa, Front, Zoho, Sprinklr and Gorgias as helpdesks it works with.
Fin charges $0.99 per outcome, which covers a resolution, a procedure handoff, a disqualification or a self-serve routing, with a minimum of 50 outcomes a month and $9.99 for a qualification. On Intercom, seats cost $29 per helpdesk seat a month, and a 14-day trial needs no credit card. Its trust page names SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 27018, ISO 42001 and HIPAA, with data hosting in the US, the EU or Australia. Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin, formerly Intercom, on September 10, 2026.
The limits: an outcome is the vendor's definition, and handoffs count as billable outcomes, so the bill depends on how that is configured. Our directory showed a $19 seat price that the pricing page does not confirm, so we used the page.
2. Tidio: a free plan and paid plans from $24.17 a month
Tidio is built for small online shops and service businesses. Its homepage names live chat, email, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp in one inbox, plus more than 120 integrations and a Shopify app.
Tidio publishes the most plan detail on this list. The free plan covers 50 billable conversations and 50 one-off Lyro AI conversations. Starter costs $24.17 a month billed annually ($290 a year) with 100 billable conversations and 50 Lyro conversations, Growth starts at $49.17 a month, Plus starts at $300 a month plus usage, and Premium is on request. The Lyro AI agent is also sold as an add-on from $32.50 a month, and it plugs into Zendesk, Intercom and Salesforce. Starter and Growth come with a 7-day trial. Tidio names SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR and CCPA.
The limits: the security page names AWS but no hosting region and no data processing agreement, so ask for both. Tidio's 67 percent Lyro resolution figure is a vendor claim without an audit, and the Premium plan advertises a guaranteed 50 percent resolution rate that we did not test.
3. Yellow.ai: a free plan for one agent and 35 channels on Enterprise
Yellow.ai sells a platform for chat, voice, email and messaging agents. Its pricing page describes a free plan with one AI agent and 500 chat sessions a month, and an Enterprise plan with unlimited agents and sessions across more than 35 channels.
Yellow.ai charges $0.99 per resolution once the free plan's 500 sessions are used up, and quotes Enterprise on request. A mid tier exists on the page without details. Its security page lists HIPAA, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, SOC 2 Type II and PCI DSS v4.0.1.
The limits: the free plan has limited channels and features, and the pricing page does not name the helpdesk or shop systems it connects to. The jump from a free tier to a custom Enterprise quote leaves the middle unpriced.
4. moinAI: three flat euro plans, unlimited conversations and German hosting
moinAI is a German provider of chatbots and AI agents for customer service, with a knowledge base, live chat with human handover and forms. Its homepage lists integrations with Shopify, HubSpot, Zendesk, Zapier and other helpdesks and CRMs.
moinAI prices in euros per month: Business at 750 billed annually or 880 billed monthly with 15 AI agents, Growth at 1,350 or 1,580 with 35 agents, and Professional at 2,500 or 2,930 with 75 agents. All plans include unlimited conversations, minimum terms run from 3 to 12 months, and the pricing page states hosting on German servers and GDPR compliance.
The limits: the pages we checked name no certificate beyond GDPR and no messaging channels other than chat and live chat. The homepage claims 98 languages while the pricing page lists 25 core languages plus more, so confirm yours in writing.
5. Sierra: six channels and outcome pricing, but no amounts
Sierra builds agents for large consumer brands. Its homepage says one agent can be deployed across chat, SMS, WhatsApp, email, voice and ChatGPT, and lists SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, HIPAA and GDPR.
Sierra sells on outcomes: according to its pricing article, a conversation that is not resolved usually costs nothing, and the criteria are agreed up front. No amounts are published. The homepage names data platforms such as Google Cloud, Databricks, Snowflake and AWS rather than helpdesks.
The limits: nothing is priced, no trial is mentioned, and our directory lists the company as serving large firms only. Expect a sales process rather than a sign-up.
6. Ada: eight channels and a long compliance list, but no price
Ada's platform page lists voice, email, chat, Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram, in-app and custom channels, and connections to Zendesk, Salesforce, Freshworks, ServiceNow, Genesys, Amazon Connect, Twilio Flex, Aircall and GitHub, with routing to human agents.
Ada publishes no pricing model, no amounts and no trial on its pricing page. Its trust center names SOC 2, SOC 3, HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, PIPEDA and PCI. The SOC 2 period it shows ends in September 2024, so ask for the current report.
The limits: price and test access are both closed until you talk to sales. The customer results on the pricing page, such as a 77 percent automated resolution rate, are examples chosen by the vendor, and we did not use them to rank.
7. Decagon: four channels and per-conversation pricing without amounts
Decagon's chat page describes handling requests end to end across web live chat, SMS, WhatsApp and email, with live translation and escalation to human agents.
Decagon charges per conversation at a fixed rate or per resolution at a higher rate, and its pricing article says most customers choose per conversation. No amounts are published. The security page names SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS, CCPA, GDPR and the EU AI Act, a multi-region setup and zero data retention with its model providers.
The limits: the chat page names no helpdesk or CRM systems, no languages and no free option, and the pricing article dates from December 2024.
8. Kore.ai: a certified enterprise platform that publishes no pricing
Kore.ai sells an enterprise platform for AI agents, with a service product for chat, voice and web, contact center optimization and agent assistance, plus prebuilt solutions for banking, healthcare, retail and others.
Kore.ai has no public pricing page: the address we tried returns a not found error and the service page names no amounts. Its trust center lists SOC 2 Type 2, PCI DSS, ISO 27001:2022, GDPR, CCPA and the EU AI Act.
The limits: nothing about price, free access, named channels beyond chat, voice and web, or connected helpdesks could be confirmed on the vendor's pages. It fits teams that already plan a platform project, not a quick trial.
Rules to check before a chatbot talks to your customers
A chatbot's answers are your company's statements. In February 2024 a Canadian tribunal ordered Air Canada to pay a customer after its website chatbot gave wrong refund advice, and held that a company can be liable for negligent misrepresentation by a chatbot on its public site.
In the EU, Article 50(1) of the AI Act requires systems that talk to people to tell them they deal with an AI system unless that is obvious from the context, and it applies from August 2, 2026. In California, section 17941 of the Business and Professions Code bars using a bot to mislead people about its artificial identity in order to influence a sale, and a clear disclosure removes that liability. A greeting that names the bot meets both.

Which chatbot fits which situation
Start with the helpdesk you already run. If it is Intercom, Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Zendesk or Gorgias, Fin, Ada and Tidio name those systems, which shortens integration questions. A small shop with a few hundred chats a month can start on Tidio's free plan, since Tidio and Yellow.ai are the only two entries with a free plan. Teams that must keep data in Germany or the EU have two vendors that state it, moinAI and Fin.
Then ask each shortlisted vendor to define what counts as a billable outcome or resolution, and what a handoff costs. Because the units differ, the answer decides the shortlist as much as any feature. For rules specific to phone agents, see our ranking of AI voice agents, and for tools that are mainly a ticket system, the helpdesk niche.

Tools we checked and left out
Forethought has a full profile in our directory and offers chat, email and voice agents. Its homepage now says it is part of Zendesk, which announced the acquisition on March 11, 2026, and it publishes no price, so we left it out and treat it as part of Zendesk's offer. Cognigy is a full-profile chatbot platform too, but it appears in our voice agents ranking and we did not check its chat product in this run.
Helpdesks that include a bot, such as Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gorgias and Help Scout, belong to the helpdesk niche, and workforce and quality tools such as Assembled are not chatbots. We will add Forethought or Cognigy once their chat pages are checked.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI chatbot for customer service?
By our criteria Fin, Tidio and Yellow.ai lead, because they publish prices, name their channels and list security certificates. Fin suits teams on a helpdesk it supports, Tidio suits small shops. Only a pilot on your own questions shows which one answers best.
How much does an AI customer service chatbot cost?
It depends on the unit. As of October 2026, Fin charges $0.99 per outcome, Tidio starts at $24.17 a month billed annually after a free plan, Yellow.ai charges $0.99 per resolution after 500 free sessions, and moinAI starts at 750 euros a month. Sierra, Decagon, Ada and Kore.ai publish no amounts.
Is there a free AI chatbot for customer service?
Tidio and Yellow.ai offer free plans, with 50 billable conversations at Tidio and 500 chat sessions at Yellow.ai. Fin offers a 14-day trial without a credit card. Free plans limit conversations, channels and features.
Do customers have to be told they are talking to a bot?
In the EU, yes, unless it is obvious: Article 50(1) of the AI Act applies from August 2, 2026. California bars bots that mislead people about their artificial identity to influence a sale, and a clear disclosure avoids that liability. Check local law before you launch.
