Xero
Xero is cloud accounting software for small businesses and their accountants, covering invoicing, bills, bank reconciliation and reporting, with an AI partner called JAX that reconciles bank transactions and answers questions about the books.
Key functions
- JAX reconciles bank transactions automatically using rules, matches, your own past reconciliations and predictions based on how other Xero users reconciled similar items
- AI reads uploaded or emailed bills and creates draft bills ready for approval
- JAX answers questions about income, profit and business performance with charts and tables from Xero data
Compared with BookWell
- Publishes a price (from $27 per month); BookWell quotes on request.
- Names 2 security certificates, BookWell 0.
- Strong in the same markets as BookWell: Australia.
Check before buying: Check which plan includes JAX automatic reconciliation, since smaller plans need the AI Automate add-on, and whether invoice and bill limits fit your volume. Xero lists AWS, Anthropic and OpenAI among US-based subprocessors, so review the public data processing addendum and subprocessor list with your privacy team. Auditors can request Xero's SOC 2 report. Approval roles for bills exist, so define who creates and who approves.
