Lexware Office, formerly lexoffice, is a cloud accounting tool from Haufe Group for small businesses and the self-employed in Germany. Its AI reads receipts, proposes accounts and pairs receipts with payments, while the tax advisor connects through DATEV.
The product covers receipt capture and archive, quotes and invoices including e-invoices, dunning, bookkeeping with cash-basis accounts and VAT returns, multibanking and an optional payroll module. Receipts come in through the free scan app, uploads or digital invoices. Tax advisors receive data through DATEV cloud services, including the DATEV invoice data service and booking data service, or as a CSV export. Lexware cites more than 450,000 customers and hosts data in ISO 27001 certified data centers near Frankfurt. The plans suit companies without an in-house accounting team.
Lexware Office AI features and use cases
- Reads receipts beyond plain OCRThe AI extracts amount, document number, date, VAT rates and line items from uploaded receipts. It distinguishes an invoice date from a due date and gross from net amounts, so fewer fields need correcting before booking.
- Proposes accounts under SKR03 or SKR04For each receipt the software suggests a booking category based on the German standard charts of accounts, including harder cases such as entertainment expenses, fixed assets and reverse charge. The user or tax advisor confirms the proposal instead of coding it from scratch.
- Pairs receipts with paymentsLexware Office searches bank accounts, credit cards and PayPal for payments that match open receipts and offers a booking proposal for each transaction. The vendor states that the system learns from corrections, so recurring items like rent or subscriptions need less manual work over time.
