What is Zowie?
Zowie is a customer service platform from a US-incorporated vendor with a subsidiary in Poland. Companies use it to build AI agents that answer customers by chat, email and voice, run rule-bound processes such as refunds, and score every conversation for quality.
Zowie, Inc. is registered in Delaware, and its data processing agreement names the Polish subsidiary Zowie Europe in Warsaw. The platform has three parts: Agent Studio for building agents from Flows, Playbooks and Knowledge, Orchestrator for intent detection and routing, and the quality tools Supervisor, Tester and Traces. Zowie Inbox is a workspace for human agents, and Hello is a conversational interface for websites and apps. Channels include chat, email, SMS, voice, WhatsApp and Messenger. The vendor states it handles more than 100 million conversations a year, with a focus on banking, insurance, telecom and retail.
Zowie AI features and use cases
- Runs rule-bound processesFlows compile before they run, and a separate decision engine applies the business rules while the language model only interprets the request and words the reply. Refunds, claims or identity checks follow the same path each time, and every decision is logged for later review.
- Handles judgment calls with PlaybooksTeams describe goals and guardrails in plain language, such as an approval limit for refunds or a confidence threshold for handing over to a person. The agent applies them in conversations that do not fit a fixed script, so fewer flows have to be built and maintained.
- Scores every conversationSupervisor evaluates conversations of AI agents, human agents and third-party systems against criteria written in plain language. Quality teams see results for all interactions instead of a sample, and Traces shows the reasoning behind each AI decision.
- Routes by intent and adapts to the channelOrchestrator classifies each message, assigns it to a Zowie, third-party, in-house or human agent, and formats the answer for chat, email or voice. Customers keep their context when they switch channel, and support teams maintain one set of rules across channels.
What sets Zowie apart
- Separates the language model from business rules: a deterministic decision engine executes compiled Flows, while the model handles language.
- Open to other components: the vendor describes a choice of language model and voice provider, and externally built agents can connect to its monitoring.
- Offers cloud, private cloud and on-premises deployment, with custom data residency in the EU, US or APAC for private cloud.
- Chat and email support 39 languages according to the documentation; voice has a separate language list.
Where Zowie is strongest
