GitBook
GitBook is a platform for product and developer documentation that syncs with GitHub or GitLab and uses AI to write, review and translate content and to answer readers' questions, from single maintainers to large companies.
Key functions
- GitBook Agent creates and edits content and reviews change requests
- Automatic AI translation of documentation that stays in sync (paid extra on Essential, included from Ultimate)
- GitBook Assistant answers reader questions (500 answers on Essential, no such cap from Ultimate)
Compared with Guru
- Publishes a price (from $65 per month); Guru quotes on request.
- Offers a free trial; we found none for Guru.
- Targets companies under 50 employees, which Guru does not.
- Different pricing model: flat fee instead of contact for pricing.
Check before buying: Customer data is stored in US data centers on Google Cloud, with content cached globally through a CDN; an EU hosting option was not listed in September 2026. The privacy statement provides a data processing agreement with standard contractual clauses, and the subprocessor list is public. The reader assistant starts with Essential at 500 answers, and SAML SSO requires Enterprise. Costs grow with sites and users.
